Foundation of Kings Stone SL International Research Centre

The development of Kings Stone SL International Research Centre and current

activities parallel that of the International Society for the System Sciences (ISSS)

whose members strive for a multi-level understanding that crosses boundaries

between the humanities, the arts, the sciences, and technologies. It calls for an

interdisciplinary approach that embraces different ways of knowing and being.

Rather than concentrating on differences, the group strives to find the common

principles and concepts used across disciplines (Bonathy B., 2000)

This approach is applicable today with the use of Immersive Worlds for teaching,

learning and research.

Ludwig von Bertalnffy is called the 'father of General Systems Theory'.

(Benathy, B., 2000) According to Mandel (1996), the General Systems

Theory was based on a Western origin.

There is evidence that the Eastern philosophy of Ying and Yang, the Greeks

and Aboriginal origins influenced Bertalnffy's General Systems Theory.

Originally called the "Society for General Systems Research, Ludwig von Bertalnffy

brought together economist Kenneth Bouding, mathematician-biologist

Anatol Rapoport, neurophysiologist Ralph Gerard, psychologist

James Grier Miller and anthropologist Margaret Mead

to develop a theory of 'general systems' (Benathy, B., 2000).

Mission

The mission is to provide resources, support and opportunities for

interdisciplinary and international collaborative projects.
